What are Media Converters, how are they used and where are they used?

Media converters are used to extend copper UTP Ethernet cabling to distances beyond the 100 Meter maximum for UTP. Media converters are an inexpensive alternative to adding an Ethernet switch with fiber optic pluggable interfaces. Media converters are also used when fiber cable is needed in an application where EMI (electronic noise) may be present since fiber cable is immune to these conditions.
